In order to further promote the world’s advanced organic medicine planting technology and enhance the international influence of traditional Chinese medicine, Guangxi Medicinal Botanical Garden and Swiss Chinese Herbal Medicine and Functional Food Innovation Center jointly held the 2022 International Organic Farming and Traditional Herbs Seminar & the 2nd China-Switzerland Organic Herbs on April 21st to 22nd. The theme of the conference is “Adhere to innovation, inheritance and development”. The conference took the form of online and offline combination, and the offline venue is located in Guangxi Medicinal Botanical Garden.Bounleuane Douangdeuane, president of the Institute of Traditional Medicine of the Ministry of Health of Laos; Zhanjiang Zhang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of Guangxi Medicinal Botanical Garden; Jianhua Miao, director of Guangxi Key Laboratory of Medicinal Resources Protection and Genetic Improvement attended the opening ceremony of the training course. Experts and scholars from Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Myanmar and other ASEAN countries, members of Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medicine Industry Association, enterprise representatives, farmers et al, more than 200 people participated online.
At the opening ceremony, Zhanjiang Zhang gave a welcome speech on behalf of Guangxi Medicinal Botanical Garden. He said traditional medicine has made outstanding contributions to the global fight against COVID-19 in the past two years. Organic medicines represent higher quality and safety and are widely recognized. In 2017, Guangxi Medicinal Botanical Garden signed a cooperation agreement with the Swiss Institute of Organic Agriculture to jointly establish the Sino-Swiss Institute of Organic Medicinal Materials. In recent years, the two sides have exchanged frequently on the cultivation methods of organic medicinal materials and improving the quality of organic medicinal materials, which has accelerated the pace of organic medicinal materials entering the foreign market.Laurent Bigler, member of the Academic Committee of the Swiss Chinese Herbal Medicine and Functional Food Innovation Center and professor of the Department of Chemistry of the University of Zurich, and Bounleuane, Director of the Institute of Traditional Medicine of the Ministry of Health of Laos, delivered opening speeches respectively, expressing gratitude to Guangxi for its commitment to promoting exchanges and cooperation in traditional medicine and providing technical training over the years.
Experts from Guangxi Medicinal Botanical Garden, Institute of Medicinal Plants of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, China Agricultural University, Swiss Chinese Herbal Medicine and Functional Food Innovation Center, Germany Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Hong Kong Baptist University et al., gave talks on conservation of medicinal plants, research on herbal composting technology system, traditional Chinese medicine quality and safety, the current development and utilization of traditional medicine resources and other hot topics. The seminar and training lasted for one and a half days with a strong academic atmosphere and achieved the expected results.As an important international business card and messenger of health, TCM has become an important part of building a community with a shared future for mankind and bringing people together under the Belt and Road Initiative. Guangxi Medicinal Botanical Gardens relying on traditional medicine exchanges and cooperation between China and ASEAN nations center platform, actively pushing forward the construction of the ” the Belt and Road ” Chinese medicine. Since 2015, it has successfully held the eight annual China-ASEAN traditional medicine related training courses. By holding or participating in various international conferences on traditional medicine, BBS, training and other activities, it has established long-term, stable cooperation and exchanges relations with ASEAN countries, the United States, Austria, etc., has contributing to the acceleration of the introduction of TCM to the world, promoting the international spread of TCM, and enhancing the international influence of TCM.
