November 28th. 2021: Bio-Vegetables and Herbal Functional Food Workshop successfully held

The international on-line workshop on bio-vegetables and herbal functional food organized by Swiss Chinese Herbal Medicine and Functional Food Innovation Center (SwissHerbs, Zurich, Switzerland), Biogemuse Maurer (organic farm and biogas, Diessbach, Switzerland), co-organized by Organic Recycling Research Institute (Suzhou) of China Agricultural University (ORICAU, China), IFOAM Organic Asia (Suzhou) Training Center, and Swiss Shennong Association (Zurich, Switzerland), which was successfully held on November 28, 2021.

Founders of SwissHerbs, Dr. Qiyan Wang-Mueller and Mr. Armin Mueller; CEO of Biogemuse Maurer, David Maurer; Counselor for Education, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Switzerland, Madam Ru Xi; Scientific Committee of SwissHerbs, Prof. Dr. Jonathan Wong Woon Chung, Prof. Dr. Laurent Bigler, Prof. Dr. Jacques G. Fuchs, Prof. Dr. Jianhua Miao; Senior Advisors of SwissHerbs, Prof. Dr. Yuhui Qiao, Prof. Dr. Yunguan Xi, and Ambassador Prof. Patrick Nijs; Founder of Swiss Shennong Association, Dr. Yan Glitsch-Kong; together with around 70 people from Organic Recycling Research Institute (Suzhou) of China Agricultural University (ORICAU), IFOAM Organic Asia (Suzhou) Training Center, Guangxi Botanical Garden of Medicinal Plants, and companies, research institutes, universities all over the world participated the workshop.

Academician European Academy of Sciences and Arts Professor Jonathan Wong Woon Chung, Professor Laurent Bigler of University of Zurich, and Counselor Ru Xi gave the welcome speeches. Mr. Armin Mueller hosted the whole on-line workshop program. To follow the aim of the workshop “to promote collaboration between scientific researchers, farmers, consumers, practitioners in the fields of herbal medicine, organic vegetables, and plant-based functional foods”, the workshop program is on medicinal and food homologous plants from the repertoire of traditional herbal medicine in Europe and Asia.

At first, Dr. Qiyan Wang-Mueller showed the introduction video on bioMaurer vegetable farm and biogas, following the alive interview by Armin Mueller to Mr. Ernst Maurer, the founder of BioMaurer, with organic growing technology questions and business development. Prof. Dr. Jacques Fuchs presented “Use and marketing of biogas products in Switzerland”; As keynote talk, Prof. Dr. Jianhua Miao Miao presented “Conservation and precise cultivation of medicinal plants”; Prof. Dr. Yunguan Xi talked about “the Status and Policy Analysis of Chinese Organic Sector”. The team of Kunming Junous®Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd. leading by Chairwoman Yanrong Xin, has given a speech entitled “A road of Angelic — Xin’s Organic Angelica”, which followed by a discussion mainly contributed by Dr. Yan GLITSCH-KONG from point view of TCM practitioner in Switzerland. The workshop ended with the conclusion speech by Senior Advisor of SwissHerbs, Ambassador Prof. Patrick Nijs.

Being as the chief planner, Dr. Qiyan Wang-Mueller of SwissHerbs organized and managed the whole workshop, together with the main organising group members including David Maurer, Prof. Dr. Ji Li, Dr. Rui Yan, Dr. Xiaoying Xu, Dr. Pingyin Guan, Dr. Yan GLITSCH-KONG, Zhonghua Shen, Dr. Chengjie Pan, and Armin Mueller.​

Kunming Junous®Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd. and Anhui Huangshan Yijiangyuan Tea Co., Ltd. (Anhui Intangible heritage Graphite tea) have donated Angelica herbs and Shimo red tea for the workshop offline joiners.

With the on-line zoom workshop, all participants fulfilled exchange information between scientific researchers and practitioners. Especially, it furthermore strengthened the collaboration between Switzerland and China on the field of education, researches, commerce and trade. Prof. Dr. Jonathan Wong Woon Chung is giving a welcome address.
